Women’s Golf for a Cause Clinic set for Sevillano Links at Rolling Hills Casino Resort GCSANC Distributes Ball Mark Repair Tools to all Attendees Corning, CA- Sevillano Links at Rolling Hills Casino Resort will host its 2nd Annual Girls Club: Golf Fore a Cause event on Saturday, June 20, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Women will gather at the resort for a 4-station golf clinic plus lunch and a variety of other activities. This festive half-day gathering (held in conjunction with Play Golf America and Women’s Golf Month) is designed for women who want to learn more about golf. In addition to first-time golfers, former players interested in returning to the sport are encouraged to attend. The clinic will take place at Sevillano Links’ meticulously-maintained practice center, where teaching pros will provide instruction on all aspects of the game—long and short game, chipping and putting. Besides instruction, each participant will receive tips on course etiquette and will be given a ball mark repair tool courtesy of the Northern California Chapter of the GCSAA. "This is the second year the GCSANC has provided repair tools at the Golf Fore a Cause Clinic," stated Host Superintendent Matthew Hoyt, CGCS. "We make sure that each tool is accompanied by a handy instruction card, too." Besides the golf clinic and repair tool, each attendee will enjoy lunch and a fairways fashion show held in the event center at Rolling Hills Casino. They will also receive a logoed golf shirt and a pair of Paul Creamer designer sunglasses. Cost for the event is $45.00 per person. Proceeds benefit a non-profit organization, Girls Inc. of Northern Sacramento Valley. Tickets are available on www.ticketforce.com. For more info call Rolling Hills Casino at (530) 528-3500. Subject: Lawmakers looking to extend the sales tax to golf – again The California Tax Commission is re-examining a proposal to extend
the sales and use tax to golf play and services.
As a member of the GCSAA Government Relations Committee, I attended this activity on Capitol Hill this past Wed. It is refreshing to see the industry as a whole come together as a block and stump for the golf industry. We have a lot of work to do still and it is surprising on how many legislators still do not know who we are and just what our concerns are. I would encourage all of you to become active in your local as well as national organizations and continue to educate those that make decisions that affect the game and how we manage these playing fields. If anyone has any questions about our recent experience and just what our specific message was…please feel free to contact me and I would be more than helpful in talking with you. James C.
